Thrifty and DIY Decorating Ideas for Your Fall Mantel

Hey friends! Thanks for stopping by! Today, I wanted to share with y'all how I decorated our mantel (a couple of years ago) on a tight budget, using thrifty finds and DIY projects.
But before I start, I want to share a little secret of mine with you....I like to mainly focus on the family living area whenever I decorate for the season. Makes things much simpler. And all of us need simple, right?! (I’m preaching to myself here.) 🙂
Let's start with our mossy monogram. This rustic "B" is a simple project that took me a mere 10 minutes to do! I found this wooden monogram at a yard sale for pennies. It was a white B, and it looked like it belonged in a baby boy's nursery. Haha. But I had different plans for it! All you need is a bag or two of moss from your local crafts' store and a hot-glue gun, and randomly glue the moss onto your monogram. That's it!
I love this diy "fall" garland! And it was so easy to make! First, I grabbed a black sharpie and carefully wrote out the word, "Fall" on my pre-cut canvas banner pieces that I bought at my local crafts store. Next, I found some fun fabric flowers that were on clearance (any fabric flowers will do!), and since they already had sticky tape on the backs, I just stuck them onto two of the left-over canvas banner pieces. Then, I lined up my banner the way I wanted it. Lastly, using my hot-glue gun, I glued some white, pom-pom trim to the tops of each piece of canvas. That's it! I hung it on the mantel using some thumb tacs. The trim hid those ghastly thumb tacs, so that you couldn't even see them!
This mantel of ours was so much fun to decorate. I used both fresh and fake pumpkins, some hotel silver, antlers, pinecones and an old wooden box that I bought at a yard sale. Here's another little secret of mine....To add height to my pumpkins in the box, and so I didn't need to use as many accessories, I put some extra wadded up paper towels in the bottom of the box. It took up space and kept me from having to use three times as many pumpkins, etc!

Ok, I have a probably dumb question... I gathered pinecones, acorns and real moss this weekend to make a wreath for my front door. I know(from other people's posts) that I need to soak the pinecones in a water/vinegar solution then bake at 200 for an hour or two. My question is do I bake the acorns and moss, too? Thanks so much for any/all answers :)
