Anyone else a fan of collecting and displaying vintage sleds for winter or Christmas decorating?

They look so good everywhere! On a front porch, underneath the Christmas tree holding presents, and one year I even loaded mine up beside the fireplace with firewood!

However this year, I decided to try something slightly different. Never before have I turned a sled into an actual sign...

Grabbing some paint to chime in with the sled features, here's the charming result, that is SO easy to copy!

This cute little vintage sled was the perfect candidate for what I had in mind!

Two reclaimed wood fence planks were cut to size to fit the seat area.

Next up was a way to letter the sled. Using the stencil Vintage Sled Company - Small from HERE, it was a perfect fit!

There's also a tall vertical option to fit toboggans or larger sleds too! Check out the above link to view both options.

The image was stenciled using paint colors that chimed in with the sled itself.

How to stencil for flawless results:

  1. Position stencil into place with masking tape.
  2. Load the stencil brush with paint. I prefer using dome-tipped stencil brushes.
  3. Remove most of the paint onto a rag until brush feels dry.
  4. Tap or swirl paint through the stencil for the desired effect.
  5. Use smaller brushes for smaller stencil features if changing colors.

And the result was a charming winter or Christmas sign that gives you a reason and theme to collect even more vintage sleds! You know... if you need more reasons...

Isn't it cute?! Where would you display this sled?
