Christmas Decorating Ideas: Front Door Decoration

I needed a quick and inexpensive project to dress up my front door for the holidays and the idea for this project all started with a trip to IKEA where I saw a package of cork trivets. I had a vision of several of them hanging one below the other, dressed up and spelling festive words like JOY.
I also used double fold bias ribbon (1/4"), brads, plastic flexible chopping mats, some twine to hang it and garland from the dollar store to make it to decorate the sides.
I traced the center of each circle and drilled holes at the top and bottom of the trivets.
Then I used fabric-tac adhesive to glue the ribbon to the edges to add the pop of red I wanted.
The last step was to trace out the letters to spell joy. You could use more trivets and spell other words too!
Then I attached the trivets to each other with the brads and strips I cut from the chopping mats. I didn't want to make any holes in the door, especially because I'm a renter, so I used a 3M wire commend hook that can be removed easily.
What's fun about this project is that you can also make it into an cork board, like I did in my office. You can paint the trivets or add fabric, lots of options to customize. You can get more details in the project on my blog, including a list of materials and a detailed video of all the steps.
