Corn Stalk Wreath

I love to go out in nature and bring things into my home. From flowers and branches to fruit and even weeds. Lol. So why not bring in corn?! I usually decorate my porch with corn stalks (and I will in a couple weeks) but it’s just so pretty dried and i had to incorporate into my fall decorating.

I gathered approximately 15 stalks. I left them in the sun to dry out a bit for a couple days. This isn’t necessary because it will continue to dry after you make your wreath. But I wanted to see the dried result.

I then peeled all the leaves/husks off.

I cut the tassels off and put them in a vase.

I grabbed a bunch of husks and used floral wire to secure them.

Depending on the size wreath you’re going for you will need quite a few of these bunches.

I was going to use this wreath form but it was too difficult to secure it to the metal.

I just layed the bunches out in a circular pattern overlapping slightly. I then secured one bunch to the next using floral wire.

Once your circle is formed, flip your wreath over. This is the back side. I needed to stabilize it a bit more by wiring in a few places due to the size.

I sprayed both sides generously with hair spray. This is to keep bugs away.

I hot glued a few husks here and there to cover my wires.

I think it’s perfect for this spot in my kitchen 😊🍁

I’ve been using spray spar urethane on outdoor elements. Yes more costly than hairspray but prevents sun fade (my biggest issue). Easy to use, spray finished item outdoors (smelly to me). One can has lasted me three years with more in can. Excellent for wooden outdoor decor. My stuff has weathered five years now so worth the extra $’s
