DollarTree has some nice seasonal decorations that with a little embellishment can become really good decorations. This wreath is one of those simple to great Holiday decorations. Okay I think it is a really good decoration and one you can do as well.
This looks okay by itself minus the tag. But I was planning on making it the support to hold decorated wooden ice cream spoons by themselves.
Wanting it to be a project that others would be interested in making.
This little snowman is on a wooden spatula (used during demos featuring lotions) but similar to the ice cream spoons. The spatulas might be easier to obtain than the wooden ice cream spoons for someone to decorate.
I have a number of these ice cream spoons already painted which can provide someone with ideas as to what to paint on them
This was as far as I planned on going. Yet as I was thinking about what support this would look good on it became obvious that it needed more.
The spatulas at three and nine were made by dripping fingernail polish in a tall cup of water and then dipping the wood slowly into the cup allowing the polish colors to provide a random design on the wood.
I had some mini cones that were collected from atree in the lawn, so I set them inbetween the spoons to see how they would look. I was now planning to take picket fence boards I had salvaged and cut them to fit in a frame I have. Then secure this to the boards.
Since the wreath had progressed to something more embellished than originally planned why not go even further. A short while before this I had cut some branches from the Christmas tree and wanted to see now if they would go in the wreath without the areath being overdone.
I had cut up some of the picket fence into sections thinking at some point I might be able to do something with the top sections. Now I knew what to do with at least one.
Now how to secure everything in its place. Originally the spoons were glued to the wreath with a spray adhesive. But the adhesive will not work for the cones and spruce branch pieces. Having a tube of rubber silicone I went to work sticking the pieces to the wreath and the board.
It is true that the spruce pieces will not last so less silicone was applied to allow the branch to be removed and a knew piece added when needed. This is the finished piece.
Not a difficult project and you can always scale it back.
