Are you looking for quick and easy craft ideas that create a big impact at your front door? This pine cone wreath is perfect. It can be easily dressed up for the holiday or switch it up for everyday use. I used two types of pine cones: Eastern white pine cones (that I found in my neighbor’s yard) and scented pine cones purchased from Michaels. You can use whatever pine cones you want, but the eastern white pine cones are gorgeous and when you look a bit closer at the picture you can see that they can be quite big.

I love easy craft ideas that I don’t have to spend lots of $$ on. Here’s what is needed:

Craft Wire and wire cutters

About 10 large pine cones

About 10-15 medium pine cones

Medium Grape Vine Wreath ($4.99 at Michael’s– used my 50% off coupon)

Hot Glue Gun and glue sticks – like mine

Wire-edged ribbon ($1.50 on sale)

Gold and Red Berry pieces (.99 on sale)

The Grape Vine Wreath and wire-edged ribbon were the only items I had to purchase; everything else was either in my home or was found while I was walking the dog around the neighborhood. However, I have included in my list above some prices and hyperlinks to where you could purchase these materials if you don’t have them readily available in your home.

I started out trying to place the pine cones around the wreath and then just decided to space them around the wreath based on my gut feeling; that normally works well for me. I also thought I could use hot glue to fasten the large pine cones to the wreath and found out that was not going to work. So I found my floral wire and attached the larger cones that way.

The smaller pine cones and the berries were attached using the hot glue gun. I just cut the berry bushes apart and the pieces fit in perfectly. I had thought about using some poinsettia or burlap flowers, but I did not have any in the house and I wasn’t running to the store. I was tired after decorating all day and this was my last project.
You can see in the picture that I only filled the wreath in about ¾ of the way. Here’s the reason behind that. I ran out of pine cones… Oops. :) Here’s why it turned out okay. My ribbon filled it in perfectly. That wasn’t the way it was supposed to happen, but I like it. Now I can change my bows out for whatever holiday is going on. About this bow, I have never made one before!!! I went on YouTube and tried a couple different videos before I found one that I liked. I will tell you after I figured out the bow I took a break to make Peanut Butter Fudge… I figured I deserved a sugary treat.
If you are wondering where do I come up with these ideas; this one I saw in BHG magazine. They bought a wreath and just spray painted it light grey. I thought about spray painting it or bleaching the pine cones, but in the end I like the natural, but this is a gorgeous wreath.
What else can I say about easy craft ideas? They don’t take all afternoon and you don’t have to spend tons of money, especially if you find your pine cones like I did. I would say I spent under $5.00 on this project. I love my wreath and it will be on my front door until spring/summer when I’m thinking either eucalyptus or maybe a twig wreath… hmmm. Any suggestions?
