With this quick project, you will create a porch decoration that can be used for multiple seasons and holidays using an old cupboard door, fabric and a few other inexpensive items!
Using any cupboard door (old, like mine or a recycled one from places like the ReStore) you can create a unique, welcoming addition for your front porch. Removable fabric panels can be replaced with different panels for different holidays and seasons!
Using chalk paint, I created a chalkboard for the top panel where I can write anything from a greeting, to a favorite quote or verse.
For my project I used old peel-and-stick floor tiles I had laying around. You could use plywood as well. The peel and stick tiles made it easy to simply adhere the fabric to the front. If using wood, I would suggest using spray adhesive.
Hot glue was used to wrap and secure the edges around to the back side of the tiles.
For the panels I used old peel-and-stick vinyl tiles but you could also use 1/8 or 1/4" plywood. I created a paper pattern for the size of the openings and then using an x-acto blade cut the tiles to fit. The fabric was wrapped around the tiles and secured on the back using hot glue. Because these panels may be exposed to the weather, I applied a coat of Mod Podge outdoor sealer to them so they are waterproof.
The panels are adhered to the openings using heavy-duty velcro that I attached using E6000 glue. This makes the panels removable to change out when you want. Don't forget to 'season' your chalkboard panel by rubbing the chalk over the board, erasing, repeating several times.
I added an old coat hook to hang wreaths, etc. but you could use any type of hook, old knob, etc. for this.
And there you have it -- unique, simple and easy way to decorate your porch for multiple seasons and holidays!
