I never throw anything away.... this design was inspired by a piece of styrofoam packed with my powder room mirror....
Oval Styrofoam base, wedding wrapping paper, spray glue, pins(optional) and glue gun. I used wire(not pictured)to attach to the back. This is very light weight!
Spray the back (checking to use best side for paper) with glue. I did this step outside and you might want to wear gloves...
Lay paper out making sure to align print of paper keeping it straight . Use your hands or something to smooth out paper on piece. Let the glue dry. I waited about 2.5 hrs. Next cut away excess leaving enough paper to wrap around to back.
In this step I cut into piece stopping at outer foam about every 2 inches to allow smooth transition. Using glue gun and I worked the paper pulling it tightly around to back. The pins help to hold paper in place (and save fingers from HOT glue)ouch!!!
Secure with pins.
Here you can see the finished back of project.
Hot glue wire to hang
another option
I made this book page wreath last Christmas. The photo doesn’t do it justice. 😞
I toyed with the idea of adding cording around outside of piece and I still might. Also, if I was giving this as a gift I would use additional paper to cover back.

I should add the desk was a $40 thrift store find.... tutorial to follow....
