Paper Dahlia Easter Wreath

I love the bright colored paper dahlia wreaths floating around on Pinterest, but I thought a monochromatic one would look gorgeous for Easter. I decided to use white card stock, old book pages, and a few broken eggshells to create an earthy, soft look. That’s right. Broken eggshells. I just love using them for an added touch.

step 1 – create a base

Cut an 11″ circle from a piece of cardboard or foam board. I used a dinner plate and traced around it.

step 2 – make the cones

Cut approximately 25 squares (each measuring 4″ x 4″) from gray card stock; approximately 26 squares (4″ x 4″) from white card stock; and approximately 25 squares (4″ x 4″) from torn book pages. Next, cut about 8 squares (measuring 3″ x 3″) from white card stock. Once the squares are cut, fold each one into a cone shape and secure it with hot glue.

step 3 – attach the cones

Glue the gray cones about 1/2″ apart around the outer edge of the base, as shown below.

After the outer circle is completed, glue an inner layer of white cones, so they fall on the spaces between each gray cone.

Create a third layer using cones made from book pages.

Finally, to fill in the center, use cones made from squares that are cut 3″ x 3″, both white and book page ones.

step 4 – finishing touches

At the very center of the wreath, I placed a few strands of copper colored raffia. Then I broke both a white egg and a brown one, and I rinsed them thoroughly. Once dry, I glued some of the shell pieces on top of the raffia.
