Paper Pom Pom Wreath – A Keepsake for a Friend!

Making a birthday keepsake wreath out of paper flower pom poms for my friend Rachel. I threw her birthday party at my place earlier this summer and bought a pink happy birthday kit from Amazon that included 18 flower pom poms. One night before the party I “created” them over the course of a couple of hours. I love how they turned out! They reminded me of a peony crossed with a luffa! With the party over I didn’t have the heart to toss the pom poms instead I immediately thought, why can’t I make her something? So, I got to work!
I purchased a 16″ metal wreath form from Amazon and then tackled figuring out how to attach the paper pom poms.I decided I didn’t want them to look so much like luffas anymore but instead more truly like flowers I also wanted the wreath to lie flat against the wall (or door) or wherever she would want to hang it.
The pom poms themselves are just many many many layers of tissue paper tied in the middle and then separated to create the petals. So, I spread them open and tied them flat and directly to the frame.I used the smaller of the pompoms and used all of the magenta and light pink until the frame was pretty well covered.
Then I decided silk daisies would be perfect for a pop of contrast. (They also had greenery with them which was a bonus.) I purchased the daisies from a craft shop in town but I purchased the ferns I added after that from amazon.The daisies I layered between the paper pom poms, really filling in around and making the wreath as full as I could.
The ferns I added all the way around the edge behind everything. Both the ferns and the daisies had the convenient wire running through them as most silk flowers do so all I had to do was wrap it around the frame. Easy Peasy
I love how it turned out! I am not what I consider a “crafty” person so projects like this generally just make me grumpy and I really just start them out hoping for the best and expecting the worst.So, this pretty keepsake wreath definitely turned out better than I had hoped! Its just so bright and cheerful!
