How to stick a mirror on a painted texturized metal door?

Metal interior door from my garage to my back hall is painted with texturized paint (sprayed on and looks like a stone finish). I want to attach a small mirror on it. Sticky squares won't hold on the texturized surface. What would be the best way to adhere the mirror? Or should I try to remove some of the texture so I have a smooth surface in the area I want to place the mirror?

Yes, remove some of the texture. Any adhesive even mirror mastic would grip the texture and not the door. Would eventually fail. Once you remove the texture use mirror mastic to adhere the mirror. won't affect the mirror backing as other adhesive will.

If this is a permanent installation, why not drill a hole, put in mollie bolts, frame the mirror, put it on with decorative bolts, and it would be there forever.

Once you sand down or strip existing surface where the mirror will be placed, use liquid nails to affix.
