If you want privacy, install a pair of draperies with large grommets to slide to either side of your rod (which should be installed to extend beyond the window width) or attach rings, to make artificial pleats to fabric or draperies that have none. If you need to block the sun's heat, try thermal draperies or black out fabric, which deadens sound and insulates.
