I've been refreshing a few of my holiday decorations this Christmas season and I've challenged myself to not to buy anything new as part of these makeovers. It's been tough, but also fun. Here is my upcycle of a smaller wreath that coordinates with our front door wreath.

I have a few of these smaller wreaths that we've hung on our front windows in the past. This year, I wanted to create a "new" wreath to put on our trellis, which is normally bare through the winter months. But I also wanted this wreath to coordinate with our new front door wreath.

After some thinking, I thought it would be cute to create a Christmas wreath with a birdhouse in the center. I already had a small birdhouse left over from a previous project. And I also had some ribbon and embellishments left over from making my front door wreath.

The first step was to remove the old decorations. Then I wrapped my smaller wreath with the same ribbon that I used on my front door.

I also had to figure out how to attach the birdhouse to this wreath and how to hang it on my trellis. I decided to slide a wood slat through the back of my wreath frame. Then I could glue my birdhouse to this on the front. I could also drill a hole on each end of the slat to put a secure tie through to attach the wreath to my trellis.

Then I turned my attention to my birdhouse. This is just a decorative birdhouse that I bought at the craft store. Since they're not really made for outdoor use, I took the extra step of coating all the seams with wood glue before painting. Then I used exterior paint to give my birdhouse a new Christmas look.

I added some additional holiday detail by painting little holly leaves and berries around the front of my birdhouse.

To fill in some of the space in the center of my wreath, I glued on some sparkly branch floral decorations that I had. These branches help hide the wood slat.

Next, I decorated my wreath with some artificial pine cones and berries. I used hot glue to attach these items to my wreath.

Then I added a double loop bow to the bottom of my wreath. My front door wreath has a similar bow.

When my wreath was full decorated, I glued my birdhouse to the wood slat using construction adhesive. I let it dry overnight with some weight on it to make sure it was firmly attached.

Now my refreshed wreath is on display in our yard for the holiday season. I'm pleased with how this wreath came out, and I didn't have to buy anything new for this project!

Well done, although I think I would have fluffed the wreath more. Thank you for sharing. I know it's winter but have any birds checked it out?

So glad you like it! I'm going to have to come up with another wreath for after the holidays to decorate my trellis before the plants grow in. Thanks for commenting. Happy Holidays!
