My home is too small for a Christmas tree, so I had some fun using recycled materials to create my festive piece, which will replace another piece of art for the Holidays.
Bought this canvas piece at a garage sale for $3. It is 16"x20". I am going to repurpose it.
You need a canvas print. Broken or outdated Jewelry, glue, paint, brush or sponge and beads.
I gave the old canvas two coats of white to cover up the priveous print.
Next I chose a happy red as my background, gave it two coats. It is not smooth by design. Then I took a pencil and drew an outline of my design.
I then laid out my pieces of discarded or broken jewelry on my pattern. Played with it until I was happy with the look. Then I glued each piece with clear gorilla glue. As I glued them, I moved more pieces around.
When the larger pieces were dry, I brushed the gorilla glue onto the open spaces and put shiny glass beads to fill in the spaces.
This is the finished piece, I did touchup the paint where any pencil marks were not covered. I find it whimsical and it makes me smile of memories gone by. This would be a fun project with the kids. They can create their own decorations for their rooms. I have the smaller canvas to make a scaled down version for my granddaughters dorm room.
Enjoyed the project?

This is my kind of art. I just love this piece. I work with a lot of broken and "junk" jewelry in my pieces as well. Broaches are the hardest to find and your pieces are just outstanding. Love it!
