Yarn and Succulent Wreath

This wreath has been a long time in the making. I knew I wanted to create a giant yarn crochet wreath, but once I had the yarn wrapped in place, it felt like the wreath was missing something. I waited for inspiration to come and finally after a few weeks, I had an idea. I had some faux succulents left over from the succulent necklace I made a couple of weeks ago so I decided that these cute succulents would be the perfect adornment for my yarn wreath.

Start with a 12 inch straw wreath base. Giant yarn and a giant hook from the craft store.

Make a slip know with the yarn around the crochet hook. Then, take the end of the yarn that is attached to the skein and loop it around the wreath base. Use the crochet hook to make a stitch on the outside of the wreath and then slip the skein of the yarn the other way through the wreath. Because the skein of yarn is so large, it doesn’t fit well through the hole in the center of the wreath base. I unraveled the skein about three feet at a time and pulled the length of yarn through the center of the wreath, made a crochet stitch and then pulled it back again.

Repeat this going back and forth and it will make a neat looking fish tail pattern on the outside edge of the wreath.

Pop the succulent flowers off of the stems and insert a toothpick into the bottom of it.

poke the toothpicks into though the yarn and into the base. Add a little E6000 glue to hold everything together more securely if necessary.

Wait 24 hours for it to dry and hang it up.
