Hey y’all!! This is one of my all time favorite DIY projects!! It’s super easy-comes together fast with prefabricated wood pieces from your favorite home improvement or hardware store. I personalized mine using an old electric branding iron, but you could easily paint your monogram using craft paint, or use woodworking tools to create your last name. It’s now one of my favorite pieces in our home. It’s a conversation starter and one of the most most complimented pieces in our living room!

Prepare your base

I lightly sanded the wooden round in order to smooth out any rough edges, small gouges or dents, and wiped it off with a damp cloth to remove any debris or sawdust.

Attach hardware for legs

We used the plates and screws That came as a set to attach the four wooden legs. Simply screw in the plates where you want them, making sure they are evenly placed. We eyeballed this step, but you could measure if it’s important to you. You also could just use three legs, but I wanted to make sure mine was sturdy and wouldn’t tip so I used four.

Attach legs

This is super easy. Screw your desired leg style into the plates. We used a small level to make sure the legs were evenly screwed in and the riser didn’t rock or wobble.

Personalize!
Using an Electric Branding Iron

We used an old electric Branding Iron to burn our cattle brand into the middle of the riser. I really loved this step!! It makes this project into a one of a kind item, and adds a large part of our family history into our decor!! You could also use woodworking tools to burn your initials, monogram or family name.

Finish with dark wax

I finished my riser using two coats of dark wax so the wood grain would show through. The first was a light, even coat and then buffed to a shine. The second was a heavy coat creating areas of contrast. Using a small paintbrush I added wax to the brand so the wood wouldn’t dry out and crack over time. Another good buffing and it’s done!!

Style it up and give it a place of honor!

I display my riser front and center on my coffee table. I have a hard time covering up the brand (Cuz it’s my favorite thing-did I mention that?😂), so I throw some fun cowhide coasters out for effect. I do have plans for a great pumpkin display for fall though!! Candles, greenery, and galvanized lanterns look really great displayed on a riser. Use your imagination to change up your riser decor on a regular basis. I can’t wait to have a mini forest for Christmas!! 🌲🌲🌲
