I won't claim this as an original idea because it is far from it! I did se something similar without instructions and decided to try my hand at it. I set out to do it on the cheap as a personal challenge, so off to the dollar store I went. Unfortunately, our Dollar Tree did not have the styrofoam cones, but Walmart did, as well as the adorable cupcake liners. I did manage to get the base at the dollar store.

The supply list is simple...1 glass candle base, 1 styrofoam cone, 1 package of decorative cupcake liners, and a bottle of tacky glue.

Begin by cutting the liners in half. Next, make 3 slits on the bottoms so the can lay fairly flat. I cut approximately 25 liners at once and then separated them. This was quicker and easier than one at a time.

To prepare the tree, apply adhesive around the top of the candle base and just center the styrofoam cone on top. If you're short on time (or patience as in my case), use a glue gun for this step - but then unplug it. The rest requires tacky glue to save your fingers from burns.

Now for the fun part! Apply glue to the points on the liners and glue them to the cone, beginning at the bottom and overlapping as you go around. Work your way around and up the cone to the top.

The last row will be covered with a cone that you make out of a whole liner. Just cut a slit to the center of the bottom and flatten. Form the cone, adjusting the size to fit your treetop. Glue the edge to hold and then apply to the top of your tree.

Voila! Sweet and simple. A great craft to do with the kiddos. With the variety of cupcake liners available, no two trees have to be the same!
