These little trees are so fun to make! I kept it simple and neutral with mine but you could easily add color to match your decor! You could even glue on some little pom poms as ornaments!

I used scrap wood and cut a rectangle about 2 1/4" x 6" or so. If you have a 1x3 lying around, you could cut that to length. That would be perfect!

I used a pine board so I sanded the face of it just a bit. It seems to take away a little bit of the yellow tone. You really just need to smooth the rough edges.

I used dowels that were 3/8" diameter, so I used my 3/8 drillbit to drill two holes in what will become the base for the tree. I drilled at just the slightest angle so that the dowels would lean in toward each other a bit.

You could use ribbon, yarn or whatever you'd like to wrap the dowels. I put a dab of glue in one of the dowel holes and glued down the end of my macrame cord (make sure there is still room for your dowel to fit in). I then glued in both of the dowels, placing them at an angle so they cross each other at the top and let the glue dry.

I started by running the cord between the dowels and then looped it around the opposite dowel. I fed it back between them, in the opposite direction and looped it around the other dowel. I kept going like this weaving it around the dowels in a figure 8 until I reached the part where the dowels cross. I knew would have to unroll some cord for the top section, since I wouldn't be able to fit the whole spool through the top. I don't have a solid way to calculate how much to cut off, I basically just used my best judgement. I probably had around 10" of cord remaining when I was done weaving. If you cut it too short and need to add more cord, you could hide the end of it on the "inside" of what you've already weaved and glue it in place so you can continue to weave it through to the top.

When I reached the top, I put a dab of glue in between the dowels and glued the last part of the cord down. Once it was dry I just cut off the excess cord.

For the finishing touch I decided to glue a small, wooden star shaped ornament onto the front dowel.

And here is the finished product! I did a TON of Christmas DIYs last year, which can be found on my Instagram page! If you liked this project, be sure to follow along for additional DIYs this year!

How long are the dowel rods?

I'm going to do this. Is there a reason you can't start weaving from the top?
