This is an easy project to do with the kids. As with my other posts I am focusing on Christmas decorations made from recyclable materials.
I started with a plastic bottle and the lid of a yoghurt container.
I cut the bottles down to make the top shape of the bell.
Using hot glue I glued the yoghurt lid into the inside of the bottle to complete the bell shape.
I cut a hole into both of the lids to insert ribbon.
Tied the ribbon off in a knot and replaced back onto the bottle.
To make the ringer, I hot glued a pompom onto a small string of beads.
Then I used silver twine and homemade modpodge to cover the bells.
I attached the ringer with hot glue, tied the silver ribbon into a bow, and made a felt poinsettia and leaves. I added some of the silver twine for a loop to hang from our door knob. Of course instead of twine you could use, paints, napkins, paper, gold or silver leaf, and decorate to you own tastes. A nice rustic variation would be to use natural twine on the bells and centred at the top of a natural wreath.
Suggested materials:
  • Plastic bottle, and lid
  • Twine, modpodge, ribbons etc
