DIY Wood Christmas Tree

I love the look of pallet projects, and I really wanted to make a wood pallet Christmas tree this year. But, without any pallets, I had to improvise. We had an old, broken toddler bed collecting dust in the garage, and I noticed that the slats were the perfect size for this project. It sounds weird, but it worked!
Luckily, my husband knows not to throw things out until we're sure we can't use them. I had originially intended to make something with the headboard and footboards, but I'm glad we save the entire thing!

First, my husband cut the boards so that they were different sizes, and then he sanded them. Next, we took a garden stake and began arranging the cut pieces onto the stake..
After the pieces were glued onto the stake, we had a nice pallet-type Christmas tree, but of course, the wood still looked new, and the tree was pretty boring.
So, I aged the wood with paint and then used thinned-out green paint to add some color. For the finishing touch, we added wood slices that my husband cut from our palo verde tree.
Turning an old toddler bed into a Christmas tree may sound odd, but I love the result! You can find more info on the blog.
