DIY Yarn Tassel Garland With How-To Video!

I loved making tassels as a kid. But, I forgot all about it until they started making a comeback. So, I just had to try them again. You know what? It’s still super fun! And they’re so pretty, I had to turn them into a DIY Yarn Tassel Garland for my mantel.
A few weeks ago, I made these yarn tassel cuties to decorate my DIY Kids PVC Pipe Tent. To start getting into the Holiday spirit, I decided to give the mantel garland a subtle Christmas theme. I used green and red embroidery floss for the tassels. It’ll look great with my Christmas Decor! But once Christmas is packed away, it’ll still look nice.
Materials needed for your DIY Yarn Tassel Garland
- Grey yarn, there’s a bunch on Amazon
- Jute Twine
- Decorative Tokens or Charms
- Embroidery Floss, comes in big assortments or individually
- 1″ Unfinished Wood Beads
- A large needle, like the upholstery needle I used
- Scissors
- 6″ Length of Cardboard
Wrap the yarn around the cardboard 30 times.
Tie together at the top of the cardboard.
Remove from cardboard and tie off again about 1" lower.

You can see how I wrapped the floss and attached the coin in this short video.
After making 6 of these, I was ready to turn them into garland. Feel free to make more or less, depending on the look you want.
Play around with the look to find the layout you like.
I went for a simple design, but you could make a lot more tassels. :)

No matter how I try my tassles never come out right. This tutorial makes it easy. Gonna give it a try.
