I love decorating for Christmas. It’s such a fun way to get into the spirit and really enjoy the season. Decorations can get expensive, though, so I wanted to make something affordable. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how I made an absolutely adorable Christmas tree tote out of super cheap materials that I found at the dollar store. So hit your local shop, then get ready to bring in the holidays.

Tools and materials:

  • 2 cutting boards
  • Picture frames
  • Spray paint
  • Decal
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors

Paint the materials

I started off by spray painting two classic cutting boards and two picture frames. I chose to go with matte black, but if you’re making this, you can choose any color you like. Once it’s all painted, let it dry.

Add your wording or design

While my frames dried, I cut out the word “trees” with my Cricut and transferred it onto the glass of one of the frames. If you don’t have a Cricut and want to do something similar, you can just print out a word or design on paper and put that into the picture frame. Then I reassembled the frame, with a fun, colored paper as a background.

Add cardboard to the bottom

With my picture frames back together, I used a hot glue gun to connect a piece of scrap cardboard in between both the picture frames, on the bottom. This served as the floor, and since this was a decorative tote and didn’t require weight, there was no problem with using a random scrap that I had.

Next, it was time to add walls to the tote. So I grabbed my cutting boards and stood them up so that they were in between the picture frames on the sides. Then I hot-glued them in place.

Add ribbon

To give the tote a decorative touch, I added some ribbon around the cutting board. All I did was cut the ribbon to the size I needed in order for it to wrap around the board and glued it in place. I repeated this on the other cutting board. Once that was done, my tote was ready to add trees to!

Cute Christmas tree tote

You guys, it’s so cute! This took me no time to do and cost me practically nothing. You’d never guess that this is made with materials that I bought at the dollar store! I think it’s such an amazing way to bring in some Christmas cheer, and I love the way it turned out. You have to try this project for yourself and show me your results! Leave your pictures in the comments for me to see.

What size frames 5x7 is what it looks like. But doesn’t say in the comments, thanks

    First of all, wow!

    Second, I can't believe I missed this - some of the comments are from 2020 & 2021.

Third, I know someone is going to grab those sturdy- looking cutting board handles and try to lift or move it. Is there something cheap (it's not going to be seen) but sturdier you could recommend for the bottom?

    Thanks for sharing!
