Farmhouse Christmas Sign

Step 1: Protect your surface.
First, lay down something to protect your surface & grab a piece of scrap wood.
Step 2: Apply Vaseline.
Next, grab some vaseline and apply it to the wood. You can use a paint brush or your finger to do this.
Step 3: Apply Paint.
After that, add whatever color of paint you want on top of the vaseline.
Step 4: Let dry& wipe away.
Let the paint dry for at least a half an hour to achieve the crackle effect, and wipe it away with a paper towel.
You can also use sandpaper depending on what look you're going for! If the paint looks more chipped than you'd like you can always touch it up until you're satisfied with the ratio.
If you don't like the look of the raw wood showing thorough, you can also paint the board first, then apply the vaseline and then add a contrasting color on top allowing the bottom color to show thorough instead of the wood.
Step 5: Assemble letters.
Next, grab a pack of wax paper. Using a piece or two of printer paper or cardstock cut down the wax paper to size and tape it to the printer paper. This will allow it to go through your printer without getting stuck.
Step 6: Print.
After that, decide what saying and font you want and reverse the letters. I used photoshop to do this using the free transform tool, but you can also do this on Word using the 3-D Rotation tool set to 180 degrees.
After that, load the paper in a inkjet printer and print!
Step 7: Transfer.
Next, cut out your letters and lay them out, taping them in place. Using a spoon - rub the ink onto the board.
Peel away your letters and you will have a stencil to work from!
Step 8: Trace.
Following that, trace the letters with paint.
Step 9: Add a design.
After that, add a design if desired.
This sign is perfect to dress up your mantle, a blank wall, or a shelf that needs a festive touch!
This whole project cost me under $20 to make and used items I had lying around my home!
