Festive and Easy Mason Jar Vase

I was able to do this with items I had on hand. It is a nice centerpiece or a great hostess gift for those holiday parties. I have put in an estimated price of $12 if you needed to purchase all of these items.

The only time consuming part of the project is waiting for paint to dry. The one thing I would do differently the next time is to paint each color independently, rather than one base coat and then do the stripes. It still worked but I think I would have liked the sanding better if I didn't have two coats of paint.

I used a large mason jar for this project. If you used the smaller ones this could easily be a votive holder.

This is the 2 quart size mason jar. I wanted a centerpiece rather than candle holders. the smaller sizes hold candles very well.

This is the base layer of white. I don't think I would do another base layer when doing the sanding to give it a rustic look. It looks great with the base layer if you are not sanding it.

Once this layer was done, I let it dry over night. Since I was going to be using painters tape I wanted to make sure it was completely dry.

I used house paint since I had a ton of red and white left over. You can use crafter's paint too.

Putting on the layers of the tape is truly up to you as to how close together you make your rows. I wanted more red so I went around the glass 3 times with the tape.

Now it was time to add my red. Due to the base layer of white, I did have to do two layers of red. Again, I let it dry over night to make sure the paint was completely dry

Here is the finished project. I didn't need to do any touch up paint since I was going to be sanding it. If you want it non sanded, there may be a little bit of touch up needed due to the tape.
