So, let the jolly festivities begin as we roll up our sleeves and make this seasonal craft that will bring joy and warmth to your home throughout the holiday season!
Tools and Materials:
The following tools and materials are essential for successfully crafting the charming Gingerbread Door. Make sure to gather everything before starting the project to ensure a smooth and enjoyable DIY experience.
Tools:
Cardboard or cutting mat
Spray foam gun or aerosol can
Hot glue gun
Tape measure
Materials:
Foam board
Multicolored plastic cups
Decorative elements like ribbon, faux candies, or holiday-themed accents (optional)
Duct tape or Scotch tape

1. Preparing the Cups
Take the cups and cut them in half, using a razor knife, or scissors. Try to maintain a level cut all the way around the cups, discarding the top halves.

These will be our gumdrops.

2. Preparing the Foam Board
Lay out the foam board and cut it in half at the ten-inch mark (they are 20 inches wide). Use a straight edge and a razor knife to create a neat cut. Place cardboard underneath to protect your table while cutting.

3. Adding Royal Icing Detail
To create the icing detail for the door, make a curly whirly design on one end of the foam board. Use the razor knife to cut along the design. Don't worry if it's not perfect since you can flip it over.

4. Assembling the Foam Board
To make one long piece of foam board, use tape to join two pieces together. Ensure the curve matches so that the design remains consistent.

5. Applying Expanding Foam
Spray the bright white expanding foam all around the foam board.

Allow the foam to rise and create a gingerbread-house-like appearance.

Avoid the edges to prevent it from spilling over.

6. Decorating with Cups
Place a cup in the center of the foam board; the expanding foam will hold it in place as it dries. Arrange the multicolored cups around the foam board, alternating colors to create a vibrant effect.

7. Attach the Gingerbread Door to You Entrance Frame
When mounting the Gingerbread Door on your wall, especially if you have stucco or any other textured surface, I recommend using a special adhesive known as clear silicone adhesive.
This adhesive offers a strong hold and is surprisingly easy to remove if needed. Don't worry about it being visible as it appears white during application but dries clear, blending seamlessly with your door. Just apply small blobs of the adhesive strategically.

For a charming finishing touch, make a small hole for the doorbell and securely attach the gingerbread façade to the door.

That turned out very nice. Did you do (do you have?) windows as well for the front elevation? The giant plastic candy canes (lighted or not..) would make a nice addition too. You have everyone "off and running" with ideas now! 😊
