Got Corks?
Do you drink wine? Or have friends that drink wine? Well I hope this little Christmas project will inspire you to save up those wine corks!
I have saved so many wine corks over the years.
Get lots of Corks Together
I needed to make a Secret Santa gift for someone and I decided to try making something with the corks. Hmmm. I searched the internet and found these cork Christmas trees for sale on a site. I thought they looked easy enough to make. It was so easy. Easy enough for even a DIY beginner.
Adding First Row of Corks
As you can see above, I glued together 10 corks for my first row. Be sure the corks on both ends show the winery. I used E-6000 but you can also use a glue gun. Then I stacked 9 corks on top of the first row. Each row was one less cork. (3rd row 8, 4th row 7, etc) until you get to the top with one cork.
Added Star and Trunk
I then Painted a wooden star yellow and put on top of star. I made a stand with 4 corks glued together and painted with Rust Oleum Hammered Copper Spray Paint. Before the ‘trunk’ dried, I sprinkled some copper glitter on it so it would shine! This is optional. When it dried I glued the tree onto the trunk.
Now to Decorate
Then the fun part!! Decorating the tree. If you’ve been following my blog you know I can’t draw/paint at all! I wanted to paint little Santa belts and snowmen on some of the corks. This wasn’t so easy for me. Not only painting them, but in a small circle. I think they came out pretty good. I tried my hardest. Tip: To paint the snowmen smile and eyes, I just used dipped the opposite end of the paintbrush into the black paint and dot it onto the cork. Such an easy way to do it.
I painted some blue and added some snowflake stickers I had. I added some green and red gems from the dollar store and little white glass balls also from the dollar store.
Happy Thanksgiving!
