Handmade Christmas Decorations

Mini embroidery hoops are perfect for making round Christmas decorations. Here in the UK one of the traditions of Christmas is Christmas pudding on Christmas day - it is a circular fruit pudding which is steamed for hours. Traditionally served with brandy cream or custard. Personally i love it.

These decorations are inspired by the traditional Christmas Pudding. Start by cutting out a circle of brown fabric a good inch wider than your mini embroidery hoops. Then cut out a piece of fabric to represent the pouring source.

Use fabric glue to hold in place then top stitch to fully secure. Place into the embroidery hoop.

Next lets create some holly - cut out shapes in green fabric, glue onto green felt and cut out. There is a template for the design on my blog post How to make a Christmas Pudding decoration.

Glue then top stitch into place. Stitch to the top of your embroidery hoop with a red balloon.

Now lets finish the decoration off. Turn over the decoration, stitch a running stitch around the edge of the brown fabric, pull the thread and gather the fabric up.

Cut our a smaller circle of felt and hand stitch with little stitches all around to give a lovely and neat finish to your Christmas decoration.

Add a loop of thread and hang your decoration. Do check out the full blog post for the free template.
