How to Winter Planters
I created new winter planters for our porch this year. I like to change up our porch every year and had these branches for quite a while and wanted to use them this year.
The planters came from Big Lots this past summer which I had in mind for Christmas when I purchased them. Below are step-by-step directions on how I made these planters.
I always keep styrofoam from anything that has been delivered to our home to use for my flower arrangements. I cut it to size and pushed it down into the planter. I then started adding the branches and pushing them down into the styrofoam.
I tend to keep these wreathes on hand for projects I work on. I use it as filler and the price? You cannot beat it.
I placed the wreath over the planter, the first time I already had the branches placed, but was smarter the second time around and placed the wreath on top of the planter and then started pushing the branches into the styrofoam.
Here is the second planter I made where I placed the wreath first, much easier!
Here I fluffed the wreath to fill in and hide the styrofoam and the branches are in place.
I continued to add branches until I liked what I saw.
Then I started to add poinsettias to the planter to continue to fill in and I also added the gold branches with balls.
I decided to add a gold bow I had from the previous year to the planter to finish it off.
I continued to work with the flowers, branches, fluffing the wreath, and placing the gold accents until I liked the arrangement. Sometimes you just have to jump in and make it up as you go. I was unsure what this project would look like when it was finished.
I like the way they turned out. What do you think? I think they are different, but I guess that is what you get when you make something yourself. I already had all of the materials on hand so this project was free for me. Use what you have around the house and spend as little as you can. It has become somewhat of a game for me to make things on a small budget. I think the more creative you become, the more you will love your home. The cost I provided below would be if you had to purchase these pieces to make these planters.
