How To Decoupage A Papier-Mâché Deer Head
My husband always jokes that if something sits around along enough, I'm either going to monogram it, or decoupage it. He's not far from the truth, and I'm going to show you how to decoupage just about anything. It's a fun craft that brings new life to everything.
For this decoupage craft, you'll need a papier-mâché animal head, decorative paper, modge podge, an x-acto knife, a foam brush and clear gloss spray paint. (If you decide to spray the horns, choose a color that matches your paper choice).
On this deer head, I decided to spray paint the antlers. Being that the wallpaper I used was on the thicker side, it wouldn't apply neatly and cleanly, so spray painting was my choice for the antlers.
I put the steed head onto a box to contain the overspray, and sprayed the antlers a deep red, matching the paper.
I brushed the Modge Podge on both the deer and the paper, then affixed the paper. I applied the glue to both because the paper was thicker than average, and the angles of the deer were tricky. I started on the neck, and worked my way up over the face. I recommend cutting smaller pieces of paper because that will enable you to smooth out the grooves and details of the face and ears.
Let glue dry for 24 hours. Once glue is dry, spray a clear gloss spray over the entire head and let dry thoroughly before hanging.
This goes to show that just about anything can be decoupaged. This steed head is a work of art, and a piece that will look lovely hanging on your wall for years to come. Certainly a conversation piece, and a custom one made and designed, by you.
