How to Make a Pom Pom Garland

Is there anything cuter than pom poms? I'm a bit obsessed with pom poms. Making them is even more fun! I've even taught my daughter how to make them.

Best of all, they're so easy that you can make a bunch while sitting in front of the television.

I used a variety of yarns that I already had on hand. You'll also need a pair of short, sharp scissors.

Open one side of your pom pom maker and start wrapping. Cover the entire thing. The more yarn you add, the thicker your pom pom will be.

When it's thick enough, close the first side and continue onto the 2nd side. Wrap until it's full.

Close it and cut the yarn from the skein.

Cut along the crack of the pom pom maker. This is why you want short scissors. Long scissors will make your hands hurt during this process, but the short ones can get in better.

Cut around both sides.

Cut another length of yarn (about 8") and tie around the pom pom maker in the crack. Tie it as tight as you can and make a knot.

Remove the pom pom maker by opening both sides and popping out the white part.

Trim any stray pieces, but leave the longer pieces to tie onto the garland.

Continue making pom poms until you have enough. I used both sizes.

Cut a length of cotton twine and make loops at each end for hanging.

Use the long pieces or yarn to tie the pom poms onto the garland. Tie them tightly so they can't slide.

Continue with all of the pom poms until your garland is finished.

Hang and enjoy! My fireplace has small nails already in it, but command hooks work well too.
