Are flocked trees toxic to cats?
Hi, I'm thinking of having a flocked Christmas tree this year, but I know that some tree flocking is poisonous to cats. How do I know what kind of flocking to use that won't harm my kitty?

Hey Danielle. Yes, flocking can be toxic for pets, but there are non-toxic alternatives that you can DIY at home. This tutorial shows how to flock your tree with coconut and liquid cornstarch, which is safe for pets and kids who may try to eat it too: https://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/christmas/flock-a-christmas-tree-the-child-pet-safe-way-25211174

Yes, flocking is toxic. I would just avoid it.

Unless you can find a tree that has the flocking ingredients listed, your best bet is to flock your own tree. Then you can make sure to use ingredients that won't harm your pet.
Traditional flocking is, yes, though there are alternatives. Though I'm not sure if folks have tried borax, do note that that is also toxic to pets in case you run across that suggestion.
Hi Daniellel: Here's a site (you have to scroll down a bit to get to the recipes - I like the soap one as sthe pets don't like the taste) that should help you outl The climbing up the tree is another matter :) How to Flock a Christmas Tree | Balsam Hill
Good luck
Hi Danielle, hope this helps. Flocking, or imitation snow, can be very hazardous to pets who ingest it. Some pets love to chew on the flocked branches of indoor Christmas trees, especially the kitties. This fake snow is considered mildly toxic but can lead to intestinal blockages if too much is ingested.
Hi Danielle! Sad to say that some are mildly toxic but it can also lead to intestinal blockages if too much is ingested.
You could use cornstarch and water to flock the tree.
