How can I illuminate this big house with Christmas decor?

Use what you have! The first year I lived in my current home, I decided where I wanted to hang lights. Then I screwed in cup hooks. Now it takes about an our to get the box down, test the lights then string them up and plug them into a timer. For the second story, use command hooks and hang them from the inside.

Battery operated candles in the front windows make a pretty look. Many have timers also. Your Christmas tree in the window will provide pretty lights at night. Fake wreaths with a ribbon inside of each window held by Command hooks. Some people hang the wreaths on the outside of the windows with the ribbon inside of the window-would depend on the type of windows you have and if a draft was created. You have those bushes up front, small ribbons or a bright garland may work for you. A spotlight outside in red or green can provide a lot of accent for your home. Agree to use what you have. If your overhang is made of metal, and not wood, it may be difficult to hanging hardware such as cup hooks to stay attached. The other challenge in mounting lights is the brick.

Before you rush out and buy any lights, browse through Pinterest at other house holiday lights and decide what 'look' you prefer: straight lines with bulbs evenly spaced and facing a uniform direction, or bunched up, icicle style, wrapped rope lights etc.

Net lights stretched over the bushes in the front would be easy to 'put up' and can pack a lot of punch if they are completely covered. Depending on the size of the nets, you may need two or maybe three nets pr bush to achieve the full impact. Use short plastic zip ties to attach one net to the other so there are continuous lights without a gap.

Lights go a long way in decorating a house. I also buy them right after Christmas when the stores are practically giving them away. Add a couple of poinsettia one on each side of the door. I use roof clips. They fit nicely under the shingles. I had cup hooks but then you are making holes in the wood of your home. I think if you wrap the posts and just put strands of lights under what looks to be a gutter, it would look nice. Oh you can also put net lights on the windows.
