How can I make a velvet tree?

I've seen velvet Christmas trees made on cardboard or styrofoam cones that look like the velvet was either draped around the cone or cut into strips and affixed to the cone. I've searched and cannot find a tutorial on how to make one of these. I would appreciate any instructions on making one or links to a tutorial. Thanks!

I remember making one years ago. You can make your own starting with a cone made from cardboard or foam. Using velvet ribbon glue at the top and wrap around with a slight overlap. Pin or glue in place. Round head pins look like ornaments.
No, but, I used narrow ribbon. That would be a great look though with wider ribbon!
