I’d buy very large bolts and nuts, then hot melt glue deviations to the nuts & the bolt heads.

Thread the stocking on to the blot stem.

At our last house we didn't have a mantle or anywhere to even hang stockings, so I made what is similiar to this porch post. The only difference is I added enough hooks to it (using all 3 sides of the post) until I had enough hooks for every stocking. The best part was that I could set it wherever so it wasn't ever really in the way. Hope that helps!
