Use a spray bottle of water to spray water on the needles, at least once a day and make sure there is water in the container/holder at all times.
When we had a real tree, we had a special glass that we sat near it on the shelf. If the glass was upside down, we needed to fill it and water the tree. If it was right side up, someone already filled it. We also put a few drops of Karo syrup in weekly. We always used warm water and stirred the Karo into the water. I hope this helps!
Did you make another cut on the trunk and stand it in a bucket of water for several hours, immediately prior to bringing it in and placing it in the stand?
You can't over water a cut tree, give it as much as it needs and never let it run dry. My tree is only 3' and drinking at least 2+ cups a day. Place tree away from heater vents if possible. Here are some more tips.

Depending on when your tree was cut could give you an answer to why it is drying out despite your efforts to keep it fresh. Many pine trees are cut WEEKS in advance of the holiday season, trucked across the country, and offered for sale as "fresh" trees. I have seen Christmas trees for sale right after Halloween. There is no way these trees could ever stay fresh until the Christmas season was over. I always make sure that if I have a real tree it is a locally freshly cut or go to a local tree farm and cut it myself. And I know that the tree can't be up as long as an artificial tree--maybe 7-10 days before the holidays--and it's done!! Some people don't realize that the longer you keep the tree in your house the more chance that you are going to have needles falling off--at the end it sounds like it is raining needles. Even a recently cut fresh cut tree will shed needles--some species more than others. I hope your tree lasts through Christmas. Get it out of the house ASAP after that. It becomes a huge fire hazard the drier it gets.
Ice in water really helps & as much water as possible, no drafts on tree, no sunlight, no heat
