Pallet tree base suggestions

I recently found this post, http://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/christmas/diy-pallet-christmas-tree-tutorial-2529806 for a pallet Christmas Tree and am wanting to make one myself. I'm not at all a woodworker but recently started playing around with pallets.
My question is, how do I make a base for this tree without a jig saw? As you can see in the above link, she made pocket holes. Any ideas?

You don't have to make the whole base if you used just 1 piece of wood and drilled screws up into the base of the tree from the bottom it would still work but if you want the same base you can find instructions on how to make kreg drill holes without a kreg. You just angle your regular drill to make the holes.

@Sally - Thank you! I actually thought of this idea before posting but wasn't sure about it. I googled it and it looks simple.

take a look at this you can use one of your pallet planks in place of the 2 x 4 they use in the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9aMQZENVp0

Personally, if I did not want to make the base, I would make the centre piece longer, and then put the 'tree' in a bucket of sand. That would give you a solid base and solve the problem of the base. And you get to have fun decorating the bucket!
