What can I use to make a Christmas tree topper holder?

The store bought ones are usually made of a spiral metal spring. I've made my topper, now I need a way to hold it secure on the top of the tree. My topper is about 2 to 3 pounds in weight.

can you tie it with a ribbon or string to add to the look?
You can buy bed springs at many antique stores. Maybe you could attach your topper to one.
How about a small length of PVC? Paint to match either your tree or the topper you made then attach the topper to the section of PVC and slide it over the top branch of the tree.
