Recovering Furniture With Pillow Shams

1 Material
15 Minutes
Easy
I wanted to recover a chair in my living room for Christmas, but wasn't prepared to take on a big job like that during the holidays (and frankly it was a little out of my league). So I grabbed a few pillow shams from my linen closet and transformed that chair in minutes.
This is not the first time I have wanted (or needed) to recover a chair in my home. I have tried my hand at my own very easy version of reupholstery before ~ you can peek at that transformation here ~ but that method would not work on this type of chair. I also wanted something less permanent. Since I wasn't ready to mess with zippers and piping and I had to come up with another way.
I'd had a pair of red velvet king sized pillow shams tucked away and I was never going to use them. They were too large for my pillows, but too pretty to toss. I knew that they would look great with the rest of my Christmas decor...you can take this year's tour right here!
I literally just slipped the back cushion into the sham, like I would a pillow. The bottom cushion was thicker, so I had to cut the back of the sham a bit to make it fit, but as I said, I was never going to use it for pillows anyway.

The end result is perfect. The shams fit snuggly so they do not move. Each season, I now swap out the shams and transform my chair often...and since shams are cheap at discount and thrift stores, I have tons of inexpensive options. Fabulous.
