Ribbon Rustic Christmas Trees

Buffalo plaid ribbon never looked so cute as it does on these rustic Christmas Trees! We used standard wired ribbon for these trees. One roll of ribbon will make two trees (depending on the size of your tree). We waited until ribbon was on sale at Hobby Lobby which helps to keep the cost down.
I printed a Christmas Tree template from the internet, but you could easily draw your own too. I printed two sizes. The large pattern I used was 5 and 1/2 inches tall.   The smaller tree pattern measured 3 and 1/2 inches tall. The template was cut out and then cut in half.
I folded the ribbon three times and pinned the template to the ribbon. I cut several tree patterns from the ribbon at once.  I pinned the tree pattern to the ribbon to keep the pattern in place and I cut out the trees leaving the wire attached.  My plan was to attach the sturdy wire to the tree branch when gluing these together.
I was able to make one large and one smaller tree out of each spool of ribbon. Ribbon is typically not very sturdy, so to help with that, I dipped my cut ribbon tree shapes in starch and let them dry before gluing them to the tree branches.
I left them to dry over night, turning them after a few hours.

I also used green felt and cut out several tree shapes. The felt was sturdy enough to skip the starch.
Using hot melt glue, attach the felt or wire end of the ribbon to a tree branch. Depending on how full you want your trees, and the size of the branch will determine how many pieces you will need for each tree. I just worked my way around the branch and fit in as many pieces as I could.
I glued a few wood slices together with hot melt glue for a base and then glued the stems to the wood slices.
I love the look of the plaid on these trees!
