I love this time of year but I am frustrated with the commercialism in the run-up to Christmas. There seem to be endless ads on the television advising what we need to buy to make us happy.... how about valuing what we have??
As a family, we have decided to make this year's decorations using what we have, scraps of wood from the shed. pieces of jeans left over from other projects, seaglass collected on family holidays.
We have created three different decorations. The first simple yes so effective triangles as trees. A variety of wood (what we had) was cut into triangles to represent trees.
The trees are sanded then painted with chalk paint. I love chalk paint - as you can see it covers chipboard, unfinished wood plus varnished wood. You may need a second coat.
Decorate your trees, I used acrylic paints and the wrong end of a paintbrush to create almost three-dimensional baubles.
Topping with stars or snowflakes. Have fun with a variety of colours for your trees and baubles - tone all in green or brighten it up.
uYou may be wondering what happened to the sea glass and denim decorations? The sea glass is transformed into mini Christmas trees to hang on our tree (Father-in-laws!), if you would like to know how we achieved such a neat circle of colour find a check out the tutorial here.

The denim is also transformed into little hanging Christmas trees - using simple hand stitching we have created beautiful fun Christmas decorations.
You can find a tutorial here.
I hope you have fun making your own rustic Christmas decorations this year, using what you have icon
