Simple and Easy Tiered Tray Wood Signs

I bought some wood strips from Hobby Lobby and knew exactly what I wanted to do with them.

Tiered trays are such a big hit this year I wanted to create mini wood signs that could be displayed on tiered trays. I cut the wood strips down to various sizes depending on the sign I wanted to create. For this sign the measurements are 6 1/2" long x 2 1/2" wide (this is the width that I purchased, so no cutting!)

I purchased SVG files from Design Bundles and cut them out using my Cricuit Explore Air 2 to create some amazing signs.

Step 1. Paint/Stain.

After cutting to length and sanding I applied 2 layers of chalk paint. I used 2 layers for an even coverage.
I have stained some of my signs using antiquing stain and they have turned out amazing also.

Step 2. Apply Vinyl.

I used images I purchased on Design Bundles and my Cricuit to cut out the vinyl.
I applied the vinyl more to one side because I knew I wanted to add something to the side.
I use Duck Shelf Liner for transfer paper. (This stuff is amazing, if you haven't tried it you need too!)

Step 3. My Secret To Making Vinyl Look Hand Painted.

If you have been following me you know my little secret but if not...
I use a thin piece of cloth and my iron to melt the vinyl into the cracks and crevices of the wood. I use this trick on all of my wood and vinyl projects.

Step 4. Apply Embellishments

I used some red and white wired ribbon I got from Dollar Tree.
I hot glued the strip around the sign and then created a little bow and glued it to the strip.
