Simple Up-Cycle for a Small Shabby ChristmasTree

Over the years I've collected quite a number of Christmas decorations. For the last few years, I try to give away or throw out, some of the decorations that I no longer use, as I'm decorating for the current celebrations.

I came across one of those small stand-alone trees that are great for sitting on a table, but it was looking a bit worse for wear. It certainly wasn't worth giving away, but rather than throw it away, I decided to give it a makeover.

This little tree was pretty when it was new, but it's seen better days.

For this project, you only need three simple supplies: a garland in your choice of colour, a glue gun and some scissors.

Start by hot gluing one end of the garland to the top of the tree. It takes a couple of seconds for the glue to really take hold, so I used the closed scissors to hold the garland in place until it stuck, to avoid burning my fingers!

Wind the garland snugly around the tree until you reach the bottom, making sure to cover all of the old tree colour. Cut off any overhanging garland and glue the cut end to the bottom edge of the tree using the same technique as before. I didn't find it necessary to use the glue gun as I was winding.

Now you've given the old table decoration a completely new look.

I decided to decorate my "new" tree with a mini tree topper and a bit of thin garland that simply sits on the tree and adds a bit of colour and contrast. You can glue the garland on, if you want something more permanent.

You could also use a small set of battery-powered lights or some small ornaments to decorate the tree.

This up-cycle took no time at all, cost nothing to do, as I used what I already had on hand and I really like how it turned out. Head on over to my website, https://www.dollarstorestyle.com for many more easy to do Christmas projects.
