Here's an easy DIY last minute Christmas gift for that someone special or who knows? Maybe you might just want to keep them for yourself.
I bought this little plastic ornament from the Dollar Store to use as a stencil.
This is a photo of a headboard I'm working on for a friend of mine. It's made with birch live edge lumber. We needed to cut the lumber to be the same size as the trellis. Of course, there were leftover pieces. That's where the JOY & NOEL signs come in.
We began by sanding the surfaces. Then, wiping with a tack cloth. We applied 3 coats of Minwax antique oil following the step by step instructions on the can.
I traced the JOY letters with a pencil. Then, used a cranberry acrylic paint finish. It needed about 3 coats. I did the outline in Martha Stewart gold glitter. You don't necessarily have to paint this stuff on live edge lumber - any surface will do: wooden blocks, trays, reclaimed lumber, wooden bowls, oars, paddles, cutting boards...
These are peel and stick adhesive stickers from Dollarama. They can be used over and over again. Just trace them with a pencil onto the surface you would like to paint.
I used another piece of leftover live edge lumber from my headboard project as a surface that was antique oiled. I drew the holly free hand but you could do a google image search of holly or something else that you might prefer if you're not particularly artistic. We drilled holes and attached jute to hang the sign. The bells and greenery are Dollar Store items that I had from other projects. I made these signs for a friend of mine. We're thinking about what we could possibly paint on the back so she could flip them over and enjoy them all year long. Hope you'll find some inspiration and DIY some holiday signs of your own.
