Upcycle a Cupcake Holder Into a Beautiful Christmas Tree
Do you have a cupcake holder left over from your last party? If so, grab it and some old Christmas ornaments and turn them into a whimsical Christmas tree that will add a little sparkle to your holiday decor!
Each year I try to come up with a new tree to add to my decor (see a couple of them here and here...) and this year I used a cupcake holder I found at the Dump Reuse centre this summer!
Turning your cupcake holder into a tree couldn't be easier. Grab some green paint (I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Bayberry) and paint it. To give your tree a little texture, dab on the paint and let it try with little drips and peaks. This will give it a rougher, more dimensional appearance.
To make some ornaments for your tree, take some old Christmas balls that you don't need anymore and give them a couple coats of paint.
I used these old blue ones and gave them two coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old Ochre.
While the paint is still wet, sprinkle your balls with antique coloured gold glitter. The glitter sticks well on the wet paint and stays in place once the paint dries.
Add a tie to each ornament using a fine hemp twine. Once the ornaments are ready, you can hang them from your painted cupcake holder.
To finish off the darling little tree, I added a vintage angel to the top tier that I had found at an estate sale this summer. She was the perfect little adornment to stand on top of the tree.
I absolutely love this whimsical tree and it looks so pretty at night with the twinkle lights hitting the glitter. I am so glad I found a new use for this discarded cupcake holder!
