Vintage Sleds Painting Tutorial

I was able to snag a couple vintage sleds from my parent's farm before Christmas. One was the kind with metal runners and a steering mechanism and the other was a small toboggan. These wooden sleighs had been in storage for who knows how many decades. I cleaned them with water and lightly sanded the wood before I started painting.

As you can watch in the video tutorial, painting the pine trees was not all that hard. The brush stroke used is a simple dabbing motion and you just repeat that in varying shades of evergreen or white.

The hand-lettered toboggan I wrote freehand and then shadowed the text. I usually shadow on the right side and bottom of each bold, capital letter. I used a black paint pen rather than a brush to make this process easier and more precise!

Then I simply stapled on real evergreens and painted pinecones as embellishments.

My favorite is definitely the pine tree forest one! You can also find tutorials for how to make that planter/topiary display and the red twig dogwood wreath on my Facebook page. Instead of lights and lots of Santa red, I decided to go with more subtle and handmade decor pieces for our front entrance this year.
