It’s true! You can take this ordinary dollar store gift bag and turn it into the most amazing wood sign. I’m going to show you how you can make one. This can make a great DIY gift for the holidays or you can use it for your own holiday vintage farmhouse decor.
The bag has the photo on both sides of the bag.  Cut the bag so you have the front and back side of bag (keep all the white washed wood effect) so that it fits your piece of wood.  You will need to cut below the handles which takes about an inch off of the length.  This bag measured 12 inches wide by 10 inches long.  My piece of wood was 11 inches wide by 9 ” long.   You get two signs for the price of one bag. If you have trouble finding this exact gift bag from your dollar store, I have provided you a link to purchase a multi-variety pack here.
Dip your foam brush in the mod podge and brush all over the backside of the gift bag.  Place the backside that you just mod podged onto the piece of wood. ( Since I was creating multiple vintage truck wood signs I used a 12 inch by 6 foot piece of wood that I placed the photos on vertically then cut the signs to size after they were dried.)

Stain the trim pieces that you will use to frame your sign. I used what I had on hand. I tend to stick with the “walnut” color for a lot of my staining. There are so many other beautiful hues so don’t be afraid to experiment. I learned that wearing gloves while staining not only saves your manicure but will save you a ton of time in clean up.  Trust me, if this is your first time staining something, stain does not come off your skin as easily as some paints do.

When cutting your trim pieces to size, make sure that you cut two of the sides 1 inch longer so that you can frame the corners correctly.

Nail or liquid nail the trim pieces on the wood. If you aren’t familiar with  liquid nails, it is basically industrial strength glue.  It bonds the heaviest materials together with exceptional holding power.  If you have some on hand, it is the easiest to do.  You can find liquid nails at any local hardware store near you.
If you are nailing the trim on, then 2-3 nails on each side will be plenty.
