While I don’t mind Bailey snuggling up under some cozy blankets, he leaves them strewn all over the couch. So we’re going to make a Blanket Ladder to store them when they’re not in use.

You’ll need (my blog generates affiliate link proceeds which are all donated to no-kill animal shelters and rescue organizations):

One 2x2 and two 1x4s

A miter saw, safety glasses, measuring tape, a drill and screwdriver bit, a bit for pilot holes, a sanding block or sand paper, and ten 1 and a half inch screws.

Cut the wood with a miter saw. Cut both 1x4s at 84 inches long...

and the 2x2 into five 18 inch pieces.

Then set the miter saw to a 15 degree angle.

Cut one end of each 1x4 at this angle.

Sand over the entire surface of all of the wood pieces.

On one of the 1x4s, start at the end opposite of the 15 degree cut and measure down 4 inches. Mark dead center of the board at 4 inches.

From there, measure down 18 inches and mark the board dead center again. Continue down the rest of the board and mark every 18 inches. There should be five marks total on the board.

Stack both 1x4s on top of each other and line up so that the 15 degree cut ends are exactly matched. This is the bottom of the ladder so they must be lined up perfectly so it sits straight on the floor.

Drill a pilot hole at each of the five markings and drill through both boards at once. Use a couple of 2x2s to prop up the board if needed.

Run a screw through the pilot holes in the 1x4 and into the end of a 2x2 to make one side of the ladder.

Do this at all five pilot holes.

Ensure that the 15 degree ends are facing the same way and attach the remaining 1x4 on to the other side to finish out the ladder.

Prop the ladder against a wall and start loading it with blankets.
