You can make a large gorgeous beaded wood tray for only $20! I applied a crackle finish to mine using Elmer's Glue and it was so easy! Keep reading for the instructions. This tray would make a wonderful gift for anyone for Christmas, housewarming or birthday!

You'll need a large wood round, finials for feet and about 50 5/8" wood beads to complete this tray. You'll also need dark furniture wax, Elmer's Glue, paint and brushes. Let's make a tray!

Start by 'staining' all your wood pieces with dark furniture paste wax. I used Annie Sloan brand but any will do. Brush it on and buff off the excess with a rag.

Note: you can use wood stain if you prefer, but the wax is much quicker as it dries fast and you can move on to the next step.

I did not wax the beads, I painted them. You can check out my blog post below for my tip to quickly painting beads all at once, instead of one by one!

The next step is to crackle your pieces with Elmer's Glue and paint them white. You can watch me do this in this video.

You simply paint a coat of Elmer's Glue to your wood piece, let it dry until tacky, and then paint it with a generous coat of chalk paint. As the paint and glue dry, you'll see this amazing crackle effect start to appear!

Once everything is dry, drill holes and screw the finial feet to the bottom of the tray, and then flip it over.

Hot glue the wood beads along the rim. If you're using beads with holes, glue them holes together. That will completely hide the holes and make them look like solid beads.

It's amazing how elegant this DIY tray is because it's so easy to make! This tray is large and very impressive and would make an incredible gift for someone who loves the farmhouse, chippy look!

Feeling pretty proud of myself that I did this all by myself! Loving how it looks as a Christmas centerpiece with greenery and candles!
