This is a colorful and fun project, perfect for DIY parties or just for decorating your home! I suggest you use felted wool sweaters, but feel free to use regular crafting felt.
Banner From Felted Wool Sweaters
- One or more felted wool sweaters (Don't use regular sweaters for this project, or it will unravel everywhere! Felted sweaters have a thick matted fabric that won't fray or unravel. Read here how to felt wool sweaters in the washing machine.)
- 1/2" double fold bias tape (buy it in a shop or learn how to make your own bias tape here)
- permanent marker
- sewing supplies (machine, needle, pins, fabric shears, thread)
- Banner sewing pattern (suggested. Otherwise, cut out your own banner flag shapes as a template.)
Cut open the felted sweater/s and trace around the pattern pieces with the permanent marker on the wrong side of the fabric.
Then cut out all the pieces.
Fold the bias tape in half and mark it with a pin. Then fold the middle flap piece in half, and mark that with a pin, too. These are the centers of each.
Insert the center flag piece inside the fold of the bias tape, matching up the two pins marking the centers. Then pin in place.
Continue inserting the other flag pieces on either side of the center piece, pinning them in place. Leave some extra bias tape at the ends to hang the banner.
Then sew all the way down the bias tape, close to the open edge.
Hang up your upcycled banner bunting and get ready to celebrate!
