I like my Halloweens with themes, particularly literary ones, so I made this Miss Havisham's wedding cake the year we had a Great Expectations themed Halloween (we've also done Edgar Allan Poe). It would also work for a Haunted Mansion theme or just an all purpose spooky wedding display.
I went to the craft store and bought two cake forms. I ended up buying this hat box for the bottom layer because it was the right size and a good bit cheaper than another cake form (but, of course, another cake form would also work).
Then I made the "frosting" from Plaster of Paris and water. Getting the consistency right was tricky; I just played around with it until it worked. I'm not particularly good at frosting real or fake cakes, so it was nice that this was supposed to be a cake that had been sitting around decaying for decades and didn't need to look perfect icon
I bought some fake flowers to go on top and around the sides. And, of course, rubber mice to gnaw on the frosting.
Eventually, when I was putting together the bigger display, I covered the cake with spider webs and surrounded it with other remnants of the abandoned, ghostly wedding feast.
